A new way to WASH for COVID and beyond

My heart goes out to anyone affected by COVID-19 - the word WASH has been used many times, in order to help stop the spread of the virus.

During this difficult period, I decided to create my own health routine based around the anacronym W.A.S.H.

It’s designed to help keep you well, both physically and mentally.

‘W’ stands for Water.

Over 70% of our body is made up of water, so it makes sense that we keep hydrated to function well. I start each day with at least 2 glasses of water, and aim to eat water-dense foods throughout the day, like my favourite fruit, watermelon, and favourite vegetable, the carrot. And I really notice when I haven’t included enough water into my day – I feel sluggish and cloudy.

‘A’ stands for Affirmations.

This involves feeding our minds with positive thoughts in order to balance out the negative. Unfortunately, we are subjected to copious amounts of negative stories from the news and from our own self-talk. Try affirmations like, ‘I AM ONE BILLION PERCENT HEALTHY’.

‘S’ stands for Self.

The thinking behind this is that in order to help others we have to become the best versions of ourselves first. This involves being selfish with your time – giving yourself time to breathe, relax, be mindful and be grateful for all the great things you do have.

‘H’ stands for ‘HELP’ or ‘HINDER’.

I got this idea from mindset coach, John Novak – the idea is that for whatever action or thought you have, ask yourself whether it will Help or Hinder you from moving forward.

What steps have you taken to ensure you WASH today?

Best wishes,

Jason
